Oat milk in a glass

Move over almond milk, there’s a new milk in town and it’s oat milk. We know we’ve already gone over the different types of milk you can drink if you want to go dairy-free in this article, but we want to shine a light on good ol’ oat milk because it’s just that amazing.

Oat milk has become increasingly popular recently as people have started to understand its health benefits. Oat milk is plant based as it comes from whole oats. It’s full of fiber and vitamins and minerals including Vitamins A, D, B12, and calcium. This health-boosting milk can improve bone health, lower your cholesterol, and works wonders for your hair, nails, and skin.

Whole grain oats

Oh, and did we mention that it’s completely vegan and perfect for those with food allergies? This milk is dairy-free, contains no soy or nuts, and is usually made from gluten-free oats. What does that mean? Drink as much as you want, those of you with sensitive tummies!

Oat milk has proven that it’s for everyone and we love it. That’s why we’re giving you this quick and easy recipe, so that you can make your own oat milk at home. It will save you money and it’s generally healthier than buying it at the store, although that option is still a good one.

The Recipe

 Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of rolled oats
  • 3.5 cups of water
  • Sweetener/sugar (optional)

Directions:

  1. Soak your oats in water for 1 hour.

  2. Drain the water from the oats and rinse them off. You don’t need the water you drained from them, so pour down the drain.

  3. Blend your oats and your 3.5 cups of water in a blender until the consistency is no longer chunky.

  4. Take your mixture and drain it using a strainer. What you drain is your milk! It should be creamy not too thick or thin. You can always add more water to change the thickness.

  5. Add your sweetener to the milk if that’s your thing until the taste is just right for you.

  6. Put your milk in the fridge to cool and enjoy!
