9 Healthy Habits You Should Develop in 2020

2020 is the year to start living healthily. Work on making the following habits a part of your routine and see how they change your life!

 

1. Eat in rather than eat out

Cooking your meals at home allows you to choose healthier ingredients and monitor portion sizes, so you don’t end up overeating calories that don’t nourish your body.

 

2. Cut back on your sugar intake

It tastes oh so good, but it’s oh so bad for your heart and overall health. This year try cutting back on your sugar consumption significantly. That means ditch the soda and cupcakes! If you can’t live without that sweet taste, try a sugar substitute like stevia or xylitol.

 

3. Try to get 8 hours of sleep a night

Not getting enough sleep can affect all aspects of your health and mood. Studies show that getting 8 hours of sleep a night is just the right amount to give your body the rest it needs and to recharge your mind. If going to bed early isn’t your thing, try going to sleep 5 minutes earlier each night until you achieve a full 8 hours. If you find you can’t fall asleep, here are some ways to make yourself drift off to dream land.

 

4. Drink plenty of water

Water is so underrated. It literally benefits every part of your body from your kidneys to your muscles to your skin. If you can, try to work your way up to drinking a gallon of water a day. You might have to use the restroom more, but you’ll feel amazing!

 

5. Spend more time outside

Nature can be super therapeutic. It’s serene, beautiful, and it’s important to get a little bit of fresh air every day.  You can go for a walk or just sit outside but get out there and appreciate the gift that is mother nature!
